Caregiver luminaria new for this year’s Relay for Life

Caregiver luminariaThis year Greene County will celebrate its 20th Relay for Life on April 23 at the Greene County Community Center.

At every local Relay for Life event, luminaria bags are decorated and lit to remember those who have lost their battle to cancer and those who are battling cancer. Each luminaria is personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing for that friend or loved one affected by cancer.

This year the committee is introducing the “Caregiver Luminaria,” which is dedicated to those special people who give care and support to those battling cancer.

The caregivers give their time, energy, encouragement, love, and do everything they can to support their friend or loved one who is fighting cancer. These are people who make a difference in the lives of many.

The committee encourages a $10 donation for each luminaria and a $5 donation for each caregiver luminaria which will be displayed. The committee can decorate them or the purchaser can personalize the bags. The names of those honored will be read at the end of the Relay for Life celebration.

The luminaria can be taken home after the Relay or kept for another year. Luminaria kept for next year will be displayed on the Tree of Hope at different locations around the county during the year.

Luminaria may be ordered by contacting Shirley Stapleton at 515-386-2804 or online at  www.relayforlife.org/greenecountyia.
